This young fashion designer aims to present a new take on resort wear

After launching his brand .Archives in 2022 and making his way to Rakuten Fashion Week through  PH Mode X TYO, young fashion designer Ellis Co is set to present his latest collection this July at Misibis Bay Resort in Bicol.

Together with his creative director Reika Mayani, Ellis positioned .Archives as an unconventional streetwear brand that aims to push the boundaries of clothing. That goal was evident through his imaginative collections that paid homage to Japanese style and Brutalism. This time, he challenges himself by presenting a resort collection that veers away from the usual bold color plays and tropical prints.

Titled “Phases/Faces,” the upcoming resort wear collection is Ellis and Reika’s love letter to the "people who have influenced their respective lives." Also partly inspired by the 2021 sci-fi film “Dune,” the collection is made up of 22 pieces in white, beige, and neutral tones, with the finale look reflecting the two fashion creatives’ point of view and identity as young designers.

“The show will be personal and an intimate showcase of looks,” Ellis said. “We did our best to inject and express our emotions in the garments, hoping to deliver a visceral impact to our audience.”

The “Phases/Faces” collection is set to be unveiled on the beach side of the resort. To make the show possible, .Archives tapped veteran fashion show director Robby Carmona. The fashion presentation will also feature Bicol-based models and the makeup artistry of Violet Ocampo. People can expect to see the brand’s signature design elements, such as intricate cutting, fabric layering, and modern lapels, on the runway.

“It’s a fresh take on familiar silhouettes, which we hope Gen Zs and Millennials would relate to,” the fashion designer said.

Apart from his show in Bicol, Ellis is also preparing for another runway show happening on July 28 in Manila, featuring the brand’s take on Futurism and Primitivism.

“Aside from this, we have a lot of upcoming projects and collaborations this Q3 and Q4 of 2023,” Ellis added. “We can’t divulge the specific details yet, but we’re definitely excited and grateful.”
